About Us

Sonoma State University participates in the Early Assessment Program (EAP), which provides opportunities for high school students to measure college readiness in both English and Mathematics. EAP is important because it allows Sonoma State and other CSUs to place students in the correct General Education (GE) Mathematics and English courses to best support students in their academic and career goals.

Chancellor's Executive Order 1110

After the approval of Executive Order 1110, the California State University eliminated the English Placement Test (EPT) and Entry Level Math (ELM) exams and implemented a CSU Multiple Measures criteria for the first year course placement. With the implementation in 2018, the California State Universities no longer offer remedial courses. Currently, incoming first year students have the opportunity to take general education math and writing courses with or without support based on their enrollment category determined by the CSU Multiple Measures criteria.

What is Multiple Measures?

"Multiple Measures" are a series of different factors used to help evaluate a student's academic readiness and preparation to determine which first-year GE English and Math/Qualitative reasoning  (QR) courses are best suited for that student.
