Temporary Faculty
Lecturers hired either part-time or full-time on a temporary basis are considered temporary faculty with protection under the California Faculty Association. Lecturers start with a Semester appointment at Sonoma State. This can become a one-year appointment for six continuous years. After a cumulative evaluation process in the sixth year, Lecturers are offered a three year contract which gives them entitlement to a certain number of units within a specific department, given the work is available.
Any increase in pay for Lecturers is part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Lecturers may be qualified for a range elevation if they meet certain criteria specified in the agreement. If a Lecturer retires or resigns from Sonoma State, they need to work with Faculty Affairs to complete the separation process.
