What do I put in the Justification box?
The justification box is used to explain why you're putting in the proposal. It's simply to highlight what's changing. Here are some examples:
A class that has always been GE, but is recertifying in the new GE program:
"Content has been reexamined to ensure that it meets the new general education requirements."
A class that is proposing to be offered online:
"We are recertifying *** under the new GE Program requirements. We are also changing the modality to include hybrid and online options in addition to face-to-face offerings. Many CSUs offer an online version of this course and SSU currently has limited offerings. Course content lends itself well to an online environment and current grant-related studies in the department are focused on developing curriculum to increase students' sense of belonging and success."
A simple change in the course description:
"This is a minor change to the course description. The new language is in an active (rather than passive) voice, and it better reflect its content"
Here's one that will be new to GE:
"This is an existing course within the GEP major. We are proposing it be incorporated into UD GE area 5 pattern. To that end we have made some minor changes in course content(reflected in catalog description) as well as incorporated GE requirements (ie 3 units, and no prerequisite, signature assignment, and reflection).
