About
Dr. Karen Moranski is Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Sonoma State University. Before joining SSU in 2016, Dr. Moranski spent 21 years at the University of Illinois Springfield as a faculty member and administrator, where she developed the Capital Scholars Honors Program. Here at SSU, she most recently served as Senior Associate Vice President for Academic Programs and Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies and supervised Admissions and Outreach as part of her portfolio.
Provost Moranski has a wealth of experience in fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion through curriculum, student services, and policy change. In addition, she has extensive expertise and interest in interdisciplinary studies, spending two years as President of The Association for Interdisciplinary Studies. She has been able to bring these two passions together here at Sonoma State, helping create a more diverse and integrative campus.
Dr. Moranski received her M.A. and Ph.D. in Medieval English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research centered on medieval prophecy, modern historical fiction, and pedagogy, with an edited volume of essays titled Prophet Margins. She has also worked on research projects related to unconscious bias and assessment of global learning.
