It's March in Academic Affairs!
Dear Academic Affairs Colleagues,
Forgive me, but this month calls for a limerick. The calendar insisted.
In March, when the term’s midway through,
With insights both thoughtful and new,
Women’s Day leads,
While Pi Day succeeds,
And scholars press on what they pursue.
Admissions re-opened for the BS in Geology.
Admissions to the Bachelor of Science in Geology are now open for students beginning this fall. The updated program features a shared curriculum with Environmental Sciences, and is streamlined to align with professional licensure requirements while maintaining the hands-on, field-based tradition for which they are known. The new curriculum is structured with an efficient course rotation that enables timely completion. Heartfelt thanks to all those involved.
Thank you for your Decision Day Lightning Talks this Saturday.
Our Academic Affairs Lightning Talks continue to be a hit. During Seawolf Decision Day on March 14, faculty representatives from 24 academic programs will participate in three sessions of two-minute Lightning Talks. Each presentation will highlight what distinguishes a program, from classroom experiences and undergraduate research to internships and career preparation.
Bringing so many disciplines together in one setting creates an accessible and welcoming space for prospective and admitted students, along with their families, to explore academic pathways, discover new interests, and make informed decisions about their future at SSU.
Thank you to our presenters!
Save the Date for the WSCUC Special Visit April 28-30.
As shared with the campus community on Monday, WSCUC’s accreditation team will return to Sonoma State for a Special Visit in just over a year. The visit will focus on our institutional identity and mission, transparency and shared governance, decision-making processes, and financial sustainability.
Please watch for a forthcoming Senate call for faculty to serve on the WSCUC Steering Committee. This is a meaningful opportunity to work with colleagues to help shape SSU’s future.
If you would like to learn more about what this Special Visit entails, you are invited to join my pop-up online discussion, Demystifying WSCUC, this Friday at noon.
Dual Enrollment continues to grow.
We now have nine high schools partnering with Sonoma State to offer college credit: Cardinal Newman, Healdsburg, Rancho Cotate, Calistoga, Casa Grande, Liberty, San Rafael, and Terra Linda.
In 2026, 457 students are participating in dual enrollment. This represents a meaningful contribution to our overall headcount, which stands at 5,172 as of the spring census.

Wishing you pots of gold, strategically allocated,
